About Georgie

Georgie Purcell is a Member of the Victorian Parliament Legislative Council, proudly representing the Animal Justice Party in Northern Victoria.
She is committed to making sure everyone in Victoria is equal and respected, no matter their gender, sexuality, race, class, or anything else.
Georgie’s key priorities are improving animal protection laws and vet care access, fighting to end injustices within horse and greyhound racing, banning duck shooting, supporting innovative plant-based agricultural developments, and protecting wildlife.
Here to make a difference for animals, people and planet, Georgie ran for Parliament as she felt politics was not diverse enough, missing the voices of young women, including those with more colourful backgrounds.
Open and unashamed of her past work as a stripper and topless waitress, Georgie is dedicated to uprooting sexism and misogyny in both Parliament and Victoria more broadly.
Having grown up in regional Victoria, Georgie loves the country and wants the best for those who live there. This is why she’s committed to improving healthcare access, including abortion and mental health access in Northern Victoria, as well as domestic violence shelter access for people, particularly women, their children, and their pets. Georgie is also a fierce supporter of the LGBTQIA+ community, and advocates for a much needed Treaty with the Indigenous people of Victoria.
The wellbeing of animals and people are intrinsically linked to the protection of our planet. As well as working for wildlife and biodiversity protection, Georgie is committed to climate action, in line with AJP’s call to move beyond both coal and gas, as well as our unsustainable reliance on animal agriculture.
Prior to entering Parliament, Georgie worked as a Digital Campaigner at United Voice (now United Workers Union), a Communications Adviser at Industry Super Australia and was Chief of Staff to Andy Meddick MP.
An Animal Justice Party MP, Georgie is dedicated to representing constituents who are frequently overlooked and left unheard: the animals of Victoria.
